Die Kärntner Volkshochschulen GmbH

Die Kärntner Volkshochschulen GmbH (VHS) ist eine gemeinnützige, nicht gewinnorientierte und unabhängige Einrichtung mit Hauptsitz in Klagenfurt. Mit circa 3.000 durchgeführten Kursen und mehr als 23.500 Teilnahmen pro Jahr in ganz Kärnten sind die Volkshochschulen ein wesentlicher Bestandteil der Bildungs- und Kulturlandschaft.

Die Tätigkeitsbereiche der Volkshochschulen sind vielfältig und lassen sich in drei große Bereiche teilen: Die VHS Klassik mit dem traditionellen Kursprogramm und zahlreichen regionalen Kooperationen, im Bereich VHS Projekte/Programme werden geförderte Angebote umgesetzt, die den Teilnehmer:innen auch kostenfreie Bildungs- und Beratungsangebote ermöglichen und mit dem Bereich VHS young sind die Volkshochschulen in der Offenen Jugendarbeit tätig.

Die VHS steht für ein vielfältiges und qualitativ hochwertiges Bildungsangebot, das Menschen darin unterstützt, ihre Situation aus eigener Kraft zu verbessern. Insbesondere für Arbeitnehmer:innen werden Bildungsangebote zur Verfügung gestellt, die berufliche Weiterentwicklung fördern und eine positive Lebensgestaltung ermöglichen. Die Umsetzung in allen Kärntner Regionen sowie die leistbare Preisgestaltung stehen im Vordergrund. Die VHS Kärnten steht für Offenheit, Vielfalt, Beständigkeit, soziale Verantwortung und Nachhaltigkeit.

Gegründet wurde der Landesverband “Die Kärntner Volkshochschulen” am 17.10.1955 durch die Arbeiterkammer Kärnten. Der Verein entwickelte sich zu einer der bedeutendsten Erwachsenenbildungseinrichtungen Kärntens. Im Jahr 2023 erfolgte die Ausgliederung des operativen Geschäftes in “Die Kärntner Volkshochschulen GmbH”. Seit 2001 setzen die Volkshochschulen Programme/Projekte für öffentliche Auftraggeber um. Etwa 25 Projekte werden jährlich für vorrangig benachteiligte Zielgruppen professionell umgesetzt. Die Schwerpunkte liegen in den Bereichen Basisbildung, Internationales, Integration, Beratung und Gesundheit. Mit VHSyoung wurde 2021 der jüngste Bereich der VHS gegründet.
