Everyone knows the sometimes colorful, graceful creatures that flutter across the flower meadows in summer - butterflies. With around 160,000 described species worldwide, they are the second most diverse group of animals after beetles. Hardly any other animal order enjoys so much sympathy. But they are not just beautiful, they are irreplaceable in pollinating the flowers of many plant species and serve as a central food source in the cycle of nature at all stages of development. As the largest protected area in Central Europe, the Hohe Tauern National Park acts as a Noah's Ark for the preservation of these fluttering co-inhabitants. Even in a small area, species densities can occur that are comparable to the richness of coral reefs. Which butterflies can be found in the national park and how can you recognize the most common species? These and many other questions will be answered during the seminar. The focus is on butterflies, which can be explored up close in the open-air section. Lecturer: Christian Wieser, zoologist Madgalensberg In cooperation with www.bios-mallnitz.at
